National Conference on Alternatives

Tenth Joint National Conference on Alternatives to
Expulsion, Suspension, and Dropping Out of School will be held January 15-17, 2004 in the Orlando area. People considering presentations may complete a form. The conference is co-sponsored by the National Alternative Education Association headquarted at George Washington University.

Master's Degree in Alternative Education

Lock Haven University has a new program for a Master in Alternative Education available online. Online delivery makes resources and tools and course work a viable choice compared to traditional face-to-face instruction. The program coordinator is Nathanial Hosley at 570-893-6247 or nhosley@lhup.edu. This is one of the few programs in the nation on alternative education.

33rd Conference Report

The 33rd annual International Association for Learning Alternatives conference was a huge success with over 550 people attending over the 3 day period at the Radisson Conference Center in King of Prussia, PA June 26-29, 2003. Major speakers included Don Glines who urged action to make alternatives available to all students, Erin Gruwell with a former student on the importance of individualizing, Rick Miller, and John Taylor Gatto. Over 100 other presenters and panelists gave sessions. Next year's conference will be at Crystal Mountain in Michigan in late April.
